CITY HIGHLIGHTS

Enjoying the New York City cab ride
experience…rules…what rules!

Realizing that the subway is actually an enjoyable experience.
A bit confusing at times, but enjoyable!

Walking out our hotel lobby and being only blocks away from Times Square
and every Broadway show you could possibly imagine!

Can anyone guess how many “I Love NY”

T-shirts we all actually brought back?

Did anyone else start
to talk with a New York
accent after day 3?

And did anyone actually
go inside  Madame Tussaud’s
Wax Museum?

Memorable Landmarks…

  • visiting Lincoln Center and the new home of the Julliard School.

  • visiting the World Trade Center site and seeing the construction underway for the new “Freedom Tower”.

  • seeing the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall.

  • taking the ferry to the Statue of Liberty and finding out why the statue is green afterall!

  • walking the beautiful hallways of the American Museum of Natural History and watching a film at the IMAX inside the museum.

  • visiting the Apollo Theatre and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

INTERESTING FACTS…

* we were pleasantly surprised at how safe things actually were in the city.  Could it be because there were NYC police officers on almost every block?

* Park Avenue, 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue really ARE as gorgeous as you think they are!

* Yes, we saw the “Naked Cowboy” in Times Square and no, he’s not really naked!

* There are more pharmacies in New York than Starbucks coffee shops!

* Hmmm…are all NYC fire fighters & police officers as good-looking as they are in their calendars?  My sources all said YES!!!!!!

On Broadway!

Between us all we saw the following Broadway &

off-Broadway shows…

Wicked, Legally Blonde,
The Lion King, Chicago, Hairspray, Stomp, Rent, Les Miserables &  Altar Boyz

True musical theater

at its best!

BONUS!

Getting to watch the premiere of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix at the Regal Theatre!

EXTRA, EXTRA!

  • a true New York hotdog from a street vendor was a must have during our stay!

  • enjoying a horse-drawn carriage ride through Central Park was one of the more relaxing memories of New York!

  • Tribeca, Soho and Greenwich Village quickly became our favorite shopping spots away from the craziness of Times Square.

  • how many times did you eat at the deli across the street?

  • Angela finally satisfied her Louis Vuitton obsession by visiting the New York boutique and bringing home some special goodies!

  • The Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge were amazing sights for us to see!

And how can we forget…

* going inside Trump Towers where they film the boardroom scenes for
The Apprentice
(and where the contestants live during the show).
There really was gold everywhere in the building!

* enjoying fully narrated & guided tours of downtown New York,
Brooklyn and Harlem from a double-decker sight-seeing bus
…watch out for those branches though!

* seeing the world-famous Plaza Hotel and the Dakota apartments
where John Lennon was assassinated in 1980.

* Oh, Katie & Julianne…remember when you asked me where the
nearest Starbucks was from our hotel?  I told you to walk down the
street a bit as there seemed to be a Starbucks on every corner,
but apparently there was one even closer…right in our hotel lobby!
How did we all miss this one?!

* stopping by to see Engine 54 who lost 17 members of its
9th battalion on Sept. 11, 2001.

* standing in line by 5:30am at NBC studios for the Today Show
with the  Penticton School of Dance banner!

* staying across the street from the David Letterman show but
not being able to answer those trick questions for tickets (Cindy & Michelle!)

And lastly, seeing Angela’s name on Broadway in bright lights after seeing the Broadway show “Wicked” was the greatest memory of all.  Thank you everyone for such an amazing gift, I will never forget it and I look forward to doing this with you all again!
